Pact 2 of 6 · Accountability
Execution Pact
Agenda PDF unavailableThe agreement about who owns what, what happens when commitments are missed, and how progress stays visible.
Overview
The Execution Pact governs delivery: clarity of ownership, the consistency of the response when commitments slip, and the quality of decisions made in the room.
Weak execution pacts rarely fail on capability. They fail on ambiguity — overlapping ownership, unspoken assumptions about who decides, and meetings that end without captured decisions.
Peer accountability is the hardest element. It requires that holding a colleague to a commitment is normal rather than an act of aggression.
Signs of strength
- •No gaps or overlaps in ownership
- •A consistent, proportionate response to missed commitments
- •Decisions captured and actioned after meetings
- •Peers challenge each other without relational cost
Signs of strain
- •Recurring items that never close
- •Accountability escalated to the leader rather than held between peers
- •Different recollections of what was decided
- •Progress visible only when asked for
Questions worth asking
- “What did we commit to last quarter and what actually happened?”
- “What happens here when someone misses a commitment?”
- “Who decides, and who is consulted?”
